I pretty much agree with you: I tend to enjoy the stories that empower Bertie a bit the best, but I'm not sorry that he was maybe a little less empowered in this fic because it made the end work out so well (which I really enjoyed as well, btw).
AFAIK the origin of the Code isn't mentioned in canon, but I'm by no means an expert. Still, even if it was, I like yours very well. lmao, it does make a person wonder, though, if maybe he has a soft spot for his distant uncle because of conversations he may or may not have had (since the Code made such an impression on him and he mentions that he wanted to be the same kind of preux chevalier). lol, you know, if you were so inclined, that would make a wonderful outtake/ficlet. Just sayin'.
Anyway, all that to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this fic. :)
